UNDERGROUND WINE CELLAR | INTERIOR UPGRADING WORKS

GILI LANKANFUSHI RESORT, MALDIVES (2019)

From the Main Restaurant, you will follow a dramatic flight of glass staircase down into a cozy & interesting place, Gili Lankanfushi's exquisite and cool Underground Wine Cellar. It offers a collection of over 400 wine varieties and a intimate venue where guests can gather and enjoy cuisine, conversation, and drinks.

The Design approach is to reinvent the interior elements surrouding the interesting existing driftwood table feature to complement its rawness, interesting texture, and a sustainability component.

The goal was achieved by massive materials reuse. All Materials utilized are discarded wood planks and stairs. The planks are sorted out and recycled as Wall cladding, The Timber Stairs were reused as Wine Display Shelves, and other wood pieces are reused as new Wine Racks. The Terracotta Floor Tiles are also from old maintenance stock that were unused for many years.

The result is an interesting space full of interesting textures and warmth of the Wood with the plain ceiling and tiled floor as anchors to create a balance space to enjoy fine cuisine and converations.
